Ireland’s opposition leader, Micheal Martin, has been elected as taoiseach (Irish prime minister) in a special parliamentary sitting.
Micheal Martin has just over two years to create a political legacy that will warrant his long wait for the top job in Ireland.
Under the terms of a coalition deal, he will hold the job until 2022, when it will rotate back to his predecessor.
