MAJOR FL NEWSPAPER CALLS FOR MASK MANDATE: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis holds a media briefing on the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Johns Hopkins, the state currently has over 487,000 coronavirus cases and 7,084 deaths. Last week, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, one of the most widely circulated newspapers of South Florida, published an editorial titled ‘Help us out, Gov. DeSantis. We’re dying here.’ It called on DeSantis to issue a mask mandate for across the state as it continues to suffer from one of the worst outbreaks in the country. The editorial states ‘Your refusal to impose a mask order — a requirement now in effect in 32 other states — is out-of-touch with the mainstream. A new Quinnipiac poll found 79 percent of Floridians support a mask requirement, including 60 percent of Republicans. If that’s not a mandate, what is?’ Following this editorial, Florida announced that it had recorded 257 deaths— a record-high number of daily deaths for the fourth consecutive day.
